Orthodontics for Adults in Gainesville GA

Disrupted facial growth? Irregular tooth appearance? Do you feel embarrassed when you smile? Are you conscious about your looks just because your teeth are not perfectly aligned like your friends? You want your teeth to look attractive and have a charming smile? You don’t have to worry now because a solution to your problems lies in Orthodontics and with an professional Orthodontist.

Orthodontics is the sub-branch of dentistry which has being studied as a special discipline for the first time by Edward Hartley Angle, born in June 1, 1855. He solved the problem of millions of people worldwide. The field has gained immense importance in the past few years in dentistry and now being taught at post graduate level in almost all countries.

What is the basic tool of Orthodontics which has so much potential that can change the entire jaw appearance? Yes, it’s braces which is the basic tool used for treating people having problems as mentioned above. It’s used to stop irregular movement of the jaw and teeth and used to fix the teeth arrangement and disrupted facial outgrowth. Braces are made up of stainless steel. In it wires interact to fix jaws by the insertion of wires into brackets. It comprises of bands, wires and some additional appliances depending upon the case situation. Braces are typically of three types: an Orthodontist uses the one which bests suits the situation. Now plastic is preferred over steel, though steel is better in most cases than plastic, but people find it more comfortable to wear plastic in their jaws rather then steel and according to them it looks better too.

The Orthodontists have to take every possible precaution while treating adults because in adults their bones and tissues don’t tend to come back to their original position as in the case of children. Further, the jaws are properly grown so, the treatment is impossible at times because in children it’s easy to direct the alignment of jaws but once the teeth are developed it’s difficult. Molars and incisors are already permanent and the bigger loss in treatment at this stage of life is that the Orthodontist has to remove permanent teeth to create space for the implantation of the brackets.

Once the treatment is being done then the patient has to wear them for certain period of time i.e. as long as the Orthodontist suggests. The other tool of the Orthodontist is retainers, which is the next step after braces to hold teeth back or keep them in aligned state in the future. The time period for which a person has to wear retainers depend entirely on the case. It can be worn for 6 months up to a year or more than a year, and it also can be worn part time like at night or few hours in a day. Teeth can stay erect without retainers as well but their a maximum possibility of  them returning to previous condition  so at times an Orthodontist will prescribe the retainers for many years after the treatment, reducing the chances of re-occurrence of  problem.

Orthodontists has made several financial policies so that everyone can afford the cost of treatment as it’s very expensive and can’t be afforded by a person earning with low income. They divide the payment into installments which is easier for everyone to deal with. The reason behind some adults ending up wearing braces is the improper or no treatment at an early age, irregular bites specially while sleeping. This is a very common problem seen among those adults who undergo tension, stress, and many other common problems. They bite their tongue while sleeping. At times, the case is very severe, brackets are not the only solution so the Orthodontist goes for overall surgery. They go for designing the whole structure of face mainly emphasising on teeth.

There is a whole treatment plan set up by the Orthodontists. First, they analysis the condition, takes an x-ray, ask a few questions to clear his queries. Then he goes about making a plan and schedules the treatment and shows it to the patient so that he can prepare themselves mentally as well as financially.

Abnormalities are divided into different classes. This difference is based on the arrangement of upper and lower jaws mainly the molars. Second class of abnormality in which the upper jaw is a bit outgrown, in women its considered as mark of beauty or you can say it becomes a tool of attraction but these do affect the overall structure and need to be treated. In the third class the lower jaws are out of proper alignment and outgrown which gives a stiff chin appearance and particularly considered as sign of beauty in males. Another category of abnormality includes congenital disabilities which includes inherited factors affecting the appearance of jaws.

Developmental abnormalities are also one of the major issues for orthodontics which is caused by the surrounding factors like tail swallowing, mouth breathing and crowded teeth. Because of all these abnormalities orthodontists has to consider upper and lower jaw both during treatment as they are interrelated. Environmental factors are the one which can be controlled. Children must not be allowed to suck their thumbs, mouth breathing should be avoided, care must be taken while swallowing. All this is possible through creating awareness. People aware of the thing that they must do and things they must not like keeping their sleeping posture correct to avoid mouth breathing. Awareness can be created through Internet, television, seminars etc.

Irregular teeth arrangement can also be attributed to improper diet at an early age. We commonly see people in non-developed countries with their teeth that are irregularly aligned and this is because of the lack of proper nutrition, and poor healthcare, and other major diseases. So this can be one of the factors too but as in civilized and developed countries food is not a problem but bad eating habits create all problems. Bad eating habits among adults are commonly seen like the intake of excessive junk food.

Orthodontics is becoming more important day by day and making progress around the globe. It should be encouraged in a country where it’s not developed yet and awareness should be created among people about the problems suffered due to ill-treatment or no treatment. Search programs should be launched to bring new treatments into discussions and to make the already existing one better. There are several organization working around the globe to make progress in this field and to help people around the world. Many organizations and foundation have been established in United States Of America which are striving day and night for the greater cause and to bring good to mankind.
