We are pleased to announce the Boys & Girls Clubs of America have partnered with the Smile for a Lifetime Foundation.

Now we have entered the final week of the current round of applications and all nominees will be sent to our board of directors on May 1st to vote. So now deserving club members have opportunity to receive free orthodontic care too.

The Smile for a Lifetime Foundation (S4L), an international nonprofit organization that provides orthodontic care and free braces to underserved children with financial challenges and special orthodontic needs, announced today that it has partnered with Boys & Girls Club of America (BGCA) to help S4L chapters throughout North America find qualified applicants for their local orthodontic scholarship programs. Through S4L’s partnership with BGCA, young people who are served by some 4,000 community-based Clubs across the country will have the opportunity to learn about S4L and apply for its orthodontic treatment scholarships.

“Boys & Girls Clubs of America is dedicated to introducing the young people we serve to life-enhancing programs to help them develop self-confidence and reach their full potential as productive, responsible citizens,” said Sharon Hemphill, senior director of health and life skills for BGCA. “The gift of a smile can transform a child’s life. By working with Smile for a Lifetime, we will be able to offer Club members the opportunity to receive free braces and most importantly, a beautiful, long-lasting smile.”

S4L was founded in 2008 by Dr. Benjamin Burris in an effort to link children and teens of low-income families with pro-bono orthodontic scholarships. Since its inception, the foundation has treated more than 800 children who could not afford braces and has grown to an international nonprofit organization that currently serves more than 108 chapters in 38 states and Canada. Local orthodontists form S4L chapters in the communities they serve and individually treat six or more young people annually. Local BGCA staff members are encouraged to nominate members ages 11-18 who would benefit from the S4L program by visiting www.s4l.org.

“Finances should never stop a child from achieving the dream of a straight smile and S4L is committed to touching the lives of our youth by awarding thousands of orthodontic scholarships to deserving kids,” said S4L National Board President Dr. Ronald Redmond. “Given our shared goal of fostering self-confidence among our nation’s youth, we believe our partnership with Boys & Girls Clubs of America is the perfect union for providing our nation’s young people with a brighter future.”

The mission of S4L is to create self-confidence, inspire hope and change the lives of children in their communities in a dramatic way. The gift of a smile can do all this for a deserving, underserved individual who, in turn, can use this gift to better themselves and their community. During treatment, many S4L local chapters also encourage scholarship recipients to participate in community service through a “pay it forward” program inspiring young people to participate in lifelong giving.

Currently, there are 108 chapters serving 38 states across North America with movement to increase those numbers to more than 200 chapters, covering 50 states and Canada in the next five years. Each chapter commits to serve at least six or more young people annually. 2011 was a great success for our Smile For A Lifetime Foundation of Hall County! We awarded 10 orthodontic scholarships for patients that were in need for orthodontic treatment and would not be able to receive it otherwise.

Our 20 board of directors met twice last year to go through all of the applicants and then they voted for their favorite 10 based on need and completed applications.

Invisalign Teen – Gainesville GA

Everybody wants to look good. Having a great and beautiful smile is a blessing these days. If not, then there are a lot of procedures that are available for straightening the teeth. The most common of them are braces. However, braces are very prominent. During the teens children are going through a lot of image issues, add braces on top of that and life can be pretty cruel to teenagers. For all these worried parents and teenagers, Invisalign is the answer to their prayers.

Invisalign Teen is custom- made for everyone. The shape of the aligner is determined by taking the individual and unique molds of each teenager. The aligners are transparent and plastic in nature. The purpose of  Invisalign Teen is to adjust the shape of the teeth and shift the teeth to their perfect position. The frame or the tray is to be worn at all times except during meal times. They are also removed during drinking, brushing and flossing. The adjustment of the teeth using this aligner is variable for each teenager. However, it can be said that the treatment time is approximately equal to the time taken by the metal braces. Generally, the time taken is said to be between 12-18 months.  The liners for  teenagers have a blue dot, which is called compliance indicator. This can be used to see how regularly the young patient wears their Invisalign Teen aligners.  When the blue dot lightens it means this is the time to get new aligners. The aligners are usually changed after two weeks.

Invisalign Teen corrects the position of the teeth. This solves problems like unhealthy gums, swollen gums and redness can be caused by teeth that are congested. If the teeth are aligned properly these problems can be avoided. Incorrectly positioned teeth and jaws can lead to speech difficulty and chewing issues for teenagers. These problems can be solved using the new and innovative technique. When teeth are not aligned properly or correctly around the jaws, it can cause extra pressure on the supporting bones and jaw joints. This can be very painful and uncomfortable for teenagers to bear. The system is designed so that all these problems are catered for.

Invisalign is preferred over metal braces because by using this system oral hygiene can be maintained easily and better. Metal braces can also cause sore spots by the brushing of the cheek flesh and the metal wires.  Six free individual replacement liners are available with the package. There are numerous options present for correcting the position of the teeth using this technology. The dentist will determine what procedure to implement. For those young patients, whose adult teeth have not grown Invisalign Teen will be used and when the adult teeth grow later teeth can be adjusted with the help of the special features of Invisalign. Since the aligners are transparent and clear in color, they do not look bad or ugly in the face like metal braces. There is a problem eating a lot of things while using the metal braces, for example, corn on the cob, pizza, burgers and popcorn for the fear of breaking a bracket. However, there is no such problem with this system since the aligners were removed at the time of eating. Therefore, teenagers can eat anything they want without the fear of breaking a bracket.

There is also the trouble of keeping the braces safe. No hard game can be played with the metal braces on. For example, while playing volleyball, there is always a fear of the ball hitting your face. If it does hit the face, it will be a lot messier with the metal braces on. Other than breaking all the brackets the braces can also hurt your mouth more when the ball hits. There are a lot of teenagers that avoid playing such rough games, unless they wear a mouth guard. There is no such problem with the Invisalign Teen. Any game can be played. So these aligners are also for the teenagers who want to play active sports and rough games. There is also the embarrassing hassle of checking that there is no food sticking in your braces after every meal as with the metal braces. Usually, there is no effect on the speech of the person wearing these liners. However, it does take some time to adjust to something new in your mouth. The results of Invisalign Teen can be observed very soon after the start of the procedure. The results of this procedure will be more pronounced if the liners are worn regularly. The teenage patient will have to meet the dentist around once every six weeks to determine the success and the pace of the treatment.

The method of maintaining  Invisalign Teen is very simple. The aligners wash in lukewarm water and using Invisalign cleaning crystals or special cleaning tablets. Other than that it is suggested that the teeth are bushed often especially after every meal and before reinserting the aligners into the mouth. This will ensure proper oral hygiene. Young patient may experience a little pain at the beginning of the new set of aligners. This is natural since the teeth will be experiencing a little pressure to adjust to the desired position. Damon System Braces Now Available in Gainesville GA.

One of the hassles that comes with the metal braces is that these braces need to be tightened. When these braces are tightened the patients feel extra pressure on the teeth. There is no such discomfort with the Damon System because the dentists can correct the position of the teeth with lighter force because of the great phenomenon of the slide mechanism. This will make the whole procedure of correcting the positions of the teeth more comfortable, less painful and shorter.
