Everybody wants to have a clear and beautiful smile. A good smile can improve your confidence. A beautiful smile is a very important tool to improve your social relations as well as business relations. Greater confidence means success. There is no need to stay stuck with protruding teeth for your whole life. Thanks to the advancements in the orthodontic field misaligned teeth can now be straightened into their perfect position. This can be achieved through a lot of procedures, including metal braces and clear braces etc.

Metal braces are very complicated to wear with all the metal ties and elastics. This procedure will give faster results. The results can be achieved with lesser appointments with the dentist. The metal braces can be of two types. First is the type that can connect the arch wire by using their own system, other types will require ligatures to do this. The normal metal braces have ties with metal elastics or ties. These elastics can cause a force called friction and pressure. This will slower the treatment and will make the treatment very uncomfortable. This elastic tie also collects plague.  The Damon System achieve the same effect without metal elastics. The wires are held in place using a slide mechanism. This has the advantage of moving the teeth more freely. This will also make the movement more comfortable and quicker.

Damon braces are not very prominent on the mouth hence do not look ugly to use. Damon braces do not need the colorful ligatures which are required on the other normal braces. And since there are no ligatures, there is no risk of food getting stuck in your braces. They are comfortable and maintaining the hygiene of these braces is very easy.

One of the hassles that comes with the metal braces is that these braces need to be tightened. When these braces are tightened the patients feel extra pressure on the teeth. There is no such discomfort with the Damon System because the dentists can correct the position of the teeth with lighter force because of the great phenomenon of the slide mechanism. This will make the whole procedure of correcting the positions of the teeth more comfortable, less painful and shorter.

The time taken to correct the position of the teeth varies from patient to patient. However, it can be easily said that the average duration can be in years. The treatment time with the Damon braces is six months shorter than the metal braces. The patients will be able to get rid of the braces faster. The patients will enjoy visible results in ten weeks.

The patients will experience some pain in the initial days after getting their braces. Nevertheless, the pain will vanish after few days. It is a common practice to extract teeth to create space for congested teeth sometimes as many as four. This is a very painful procedure. It will take quite a while to fill the gap. And until that happens patients have the gap in their teeth and a very embarrassing smile. No extraction is required in the Damon system braces because it will make use of the human body’s natural flexible method of creating space. This will be the major advantage of these braces. In the cases where extraction is required for Damon Braces it will be done to improve the facial balance and harmony. The patient will have a natural and beautiful smile. The Damon System offer a ‘brace lift’ which means that a greater facial balance can be achieved after wearing the braces for some time. This will help the patient get a younger looking  face.

Sometimes the metallic braces require bulky head gears and palatal expanders to create room and develop arches for the congested teeth. Damon System Braces do not require the use of the mechanical forces but relies in natural forces to develop arches and space. These will be achieved without the use of any head-gear and palatal expanders.

The Damon brackets are also different than the conventional metal brackets. They are tinier in nature. This is another reason why these braces are comfortable to wear. At Wilson Orthodontics, we are always on the cutting edge of technology! We now have a conservative option available for our patients who are congenitally missing lateral incisors....NO MORE "FLIPPERS"!!! Traditionally when our patients are missing 1 or 2 lateral incisors, the braces would be removed in their early teens and they can't get an implant until late teens. This is because the upper bone structures are still growing and an implant fuses to the bone and doesn't grow with it. NOW, we have a TAD (Temporary Anchorage Device) called the VectorTAS system that we can put in the space of the missing tooth until the patient is ready for the final implant restoration. This TAD doesn't fuse to the bone allowing normal bone growth. The best part about it is that the patient doesn't have to wear a "flipper" or removable retainer with a false tooth on it through their high school years...and a removable tooth can be devastating to a high-schooler!
